Lisle Violin Shop Trade Policies
Instrument Trades
Lisle Violin Shop is committed to helping students achieve in their musical pursuits. We offer our customers the option of trading their instrument purchased from Lisle Violin Shop in toward a higher quality instrument as the player becomes more skilled. Effective January 1st, 2024, Lisle Violin Shop may accept instruments for trade-in under the following terms and conditions:
- Trade-in value is determined by the original purchase price of the instrument (not including the bow or case) minus trade fees and any other repairs needed.
- New instrument to be purchased must be no less than 1 1/2 times the original purchase price of the trade in.*
- Trade-in value is limited to instruments purchased directly from Lisle Violin Shop by original owner.**
- Owner must maintain the instrument in excellent playing and cosmetic condition for instrument to be eligible for trade in. Cosmetic or structural damage to the instrument may result in refusal of trade in or reduction in trade value for repair and/or depreciation costs.
- Replacement costs for missing certificates (if sold with instrument) will be deducted from trade-in value.
- Trade-in value may not be combined with rental credit or any other discount or promotional offer.
- Trade-in value may not be applied to any bows, cases, supplies, music, strings, accessories, or repairs.
- Trade-ins are limited to two times per year per customer.
- Consignment instruments previously purchased from Lisle Violin Shop cannot be used as a trade-in towards another consignment instrument; trade-in value cannot be used towards the purchase of a consignment instrument.
- Electric instruments, carbon composites, or any synthetic instruments are not eligible for trade-in. Rental credit, trade-in or other discounts may not be utilized towards electric instruments.
- For out of area customers, trade-in value may not be determined until the trade-in instrument has been received and evaluated in store. Customers will be contacted with final purchase information once the trade in has been received.
- The owner will be responsible for any repairs necessary to restore the instrument to excellent condition except for string replacements and bridge replacements. Lisle Violin Shop reserves the right to refuse any items for trade-in based on condition or cosmetic damage. Instruments will not be accepted for trade that have been permanently marked with names or any other intentional damage including writing or symbols. Violin and Viola Trade Values
Violin or viola purchased for $2999.00 or less – Original purchase price minus $200.00 trade-in fee
Violin or viola purchased for $3000.00 to $7999.00 – Original purchase price minus $400.00 trade-in fee
Violin or violas purchased for $8000.00 and above – Quote ($400.00+)
Cello Trade Values
Cello purchased for $3999.00 or less – Original purchase price minus $325.00 trade-in fee
Cello purchased for $4000.00 to $9999.00 – Original purchase price minus $625.00 trade-in fee
Cellos purchased for $10,000.00 and above – Quote ($625.00+)
Double Bass Trade Values
Double Basses purchased for $3999.00 or less – Original purchase price minus $500.00 trade-in fee
Double Basses purchased for $4000.00 to $9999.00 – Original purchase price minus $1000.00 trade-in fee
Double Basses purchased for $10,000.00 and above – Quote ($1000.00+)
Bow Trades
Effective January 1st, 2024, Lisle Violin Shop may accept bows for trade-in towards the purchase of a more expensive bow from the inventory of Lisle Violin Shop under the following terms and conditions:
- Bow to be traded-in must meet or exceed $500.00 to be eligible for trade-in credit.
- Trade-in value can be applied towards a maximum of 50% of a new bow purchase.
- Trade-in value is limited to bows purchased directly from Lisle Violin Shop by original owner.**
- Owner must maintain the bow in excellent playing and cosmetic condition for instrument to be eligible for trade in. Cosmetic or structural damage to the stick, frog, screw, slide, or pearl eye may result in refusal of trade in or reduction in trade value for repair and/or depreciation costs.
- Replacement costs for missing certificates (if sold with bow) will be deducted from trade-in value.
- Trade-in value may not be combined with rental credit or any other discount or promotional offer.
- Trade-in value is determined by the original purchase price of the bow minus trade fees and any other repairs needed.
- Trade-in value may not be applied to any instruments, cases, supplies, music, strings, accessories, or repairs.
- Consignment bows previously purchased from Lisle Violin Shop cannot be used as a trade-in toward another consignment bow; trade-in credit cannot be used towards the purchase of a consignment bow.
- The owner must maintain the bow in excellent playing condition to be accepted for trade-in credit. The owner will be responsible for any repairs necessary (except for rehair) to restore the bow to excellent condition. The cost to repair damage to tips, winding, leather, camber or any other part of the bow will be deducted in addition to the trade-in fee. Lisle Violin Shop reserves the right to refuse any items for trade-in based on condition or cosmetic damage. Bows will not be accepted for trade that have been permanently marked with names or any other intentional damage including writing or symbols.
Violin and Viola Bow Trade Values
Violin or viola bows purchased for $999.00 or less – Original purchase price minus $100.00 trade-in fee
Violin or viola purchased for $1000.00 or more – Original purchase price minus $200.00 trade-in fee
Cello and Bass Bow Trade Values
Cello or bass bows purchased for $999.00 or less – Original purchase price minus $125.00 trade-in fee
Cello or bass bows purchased for $1000.00 or more – Original purchase price minus $225.00 trade-in fee
Cellos purchased for $10,000.00 and above – Quote ($625.00+)
Other Information
Instrument or bow cases or covers cannot be accepted for trade-in in any size.
Lisle Violin Shop reserves the right to refuse any trade-in instrument or bow has been subjected to abuse, damage exceeding the value of the item, or repair by unauthorized person(s).
*Trade ups for resizing up to 4/4 size for violin, 15” for viola, 4/4 for cello, and 3/4 for bass may purchase same price instrument or more expensive as needed minus trade fees. Trading down in price is not permitted.
**LVS instruments, bows, and/or cases purchased from a third party are not eligible for trade-in values listed above. Only instruments, bows and cases purchased directly from Lisle Violin Shop by same owner may be traded-in under these terms and conditions. Instruments purchased second hand or through other retailers are subject to a 50% of current retail price offer to the seller depending on condition and discretion of an LVS Sales & Acquisitions Director. LVS reserves the right to refuse offers or accept trade-ins at our discretion.
